The MTC though has come a long route, nowadays this has become one of the most worst services. MTC which has been meant to serve the people of Chennai and its suburbs is more concerned about the other districts and longer routes. By this way it is ignoring the better connectivity within the city.
It is still very much amazing what it means and what are the benefits a commuter gets boarding a 'M' service bus. These services have more stoppings than LSS services but charges are flat. It is also noted that all the existing routes are upgraded rather degraded to 'M' service that too particularly in southern suburbs. 'M' services can be plyed for shorter distances may be from railway stations to inner areas. But a distance like Thiruvanmiur to Thiruvotriur (M4) which accounts for more than 30 kms should not be encouraged for 'M' services.
Another blunder in city roads is the so called Deluxe services which charge 3 to 4 times than the ordinary services. The concept of Deluxe refers to comfortable journey. Is the journey comfortable? When they are saying Deluxe, then the standees and foot board travel sould not be there. But is that the reality? The Deluxe services are jam packed in some routes (viz 21G, D70) where there are very little LSS services.
The next thing is the monopoly of roads. The city roads which was the sole property for public transport has now been shared with the Transport Corportations of neighbouring districts. This is solely because of PTC buses entering their juristriction. CMBT main aim is to have a centralized busstand for all buses bound for other districts. But now, this system is being decentralized and it will eventually result in buses being plyed from every part of the city.
The transport officials must conduct a thorough analysis to check whether the city roads are ready to accept these changes.
